The Story of Language Larks
Language Larks was founded in 2012 by Rachel Johnson, passionate about making language learning accessible and enjoyable for children. The belief behind Language Larks is that every child deserves the opportunity to learn a new language and experience the beauty of diverse cultures.
Our Mission
At Language Larks, our mission is to inspire a lifelong love for languages in children. We believe that language learning goes beyond the development of language skills and creates a deeper understanding of the value of diversity in our world. By providing children with the tools to communicate fluently in French and Spanish, we empower them to achieve their full potential and become global citizens. Our goal is to create a safe and nurturing environment where children thrive and enjoy the process of language learning.
Meet our Expert Tutors
Rachel Johnson
Management
Rachel has a degree in French and spent a year living in France as part of her university experience. She is still in touch with French friends that she made at that time. After graduation, she did a qualification in Teaching English as a Foreign Language and moved to Madrid for six months where she taught English and learned Spanish. She also worked in a Summer school in northern Spain teaching English to Spanish children. Four years later, she spent six months in South America, a month studying Spanish in a language school in Quito, followed by time spent travelling around the continent.
After a move to London, she worked for an international advertising agency booking ads in French magazines. She followed that with a job in a media company working on the media elements for a ride in the Terra Mítica theme park in Benidorm and liaising with the Spanish client. She used her languages further when she moved into subtitling programmes for the BBC and Channel 4.
Once in Tonbridge, Rachel taught French to children in Sevenoaks as a tutor for someone who ran their own independent French Club. She joined La Jolie Ronde in 2012 and became the Area Support Advisor for the network in Southeast England in January 2023. In this capacity, she carries out Quality Control visits and observes other licensee’s classes as well as sharing her experience and supporting new La Jolie Ronde licensees.

Bethan graduated from the University of Leeds with a Joint Honours degree in French and German in 2001.
Señora Dicuru
Spanish Tutor
Raquel was born in sunny Venezuela and partly raised in Scotland. She has had the incredible opportunity to experience different cultures and learn a language whilst living in a new country.
She holds a licentiate degree in Education in Modern Languages and she has years of experience teaching English in both private schools and the oil and gas industry.
She is a proud mum to two bilingual kids and she believes in the power of language to connect people and open up new worlds.
Madame Barnes
French Tutor
Helen discovered her love of French in primary school, learning through games and songs. She did French A Level and gained work experience in L’Oise, learning more about toothbrush manufacture than could possibly be imagined!
As part of her degree, she spent a year in the Brie region teaching English. She graduated with a BA in French and Italian and worked in Account Management, overseeing French-speaking clients.
After becoming a mother, Helen moved to work with children in therapy services and with SEND children. She is delighted to have discovered La Jolie Ronde and believes this approach to learning is entirely how she fell in love with French in the first place.
